I am sitting here in the quiet of a cold night in Sequim, WA at my parent’s home. I am lingering a little while longer to stay with the ghosts of the previous 10 hours. Conversations on all subjects but with a focus on the relational and significant — compassion and understanding and listening ruled those hours. Good food and drink — love and skill and nourishment ruled those hours. A panorama of inviting, interesting lights before me — a real and tangible sense of Christmas, home and family ruled those hours.
These moments are so fleeting. Sometimes a picture can capture a glimpse but never the fuller memory. Even memory never completely retains the experience. And yet these rich moments in life spent in relation with those we love build on something bigger than we might capture in that picture or memory.
Taking the time here to right now to contemplate this is helping me to slow it down and appreciate what just happened. It’s really a beautiful thing . . .like the picture above.
